I’ve taken a cup of raspberry leaf tea into your room and am listening to songs, picking out the last few tunes to play as we labour together. There are going to be many renditions of this song as it’s my most favourite piece of music and relaxes me completely. I’ve recently started playing piano again, this being the only song I’ve really opened and you kick away as I play. I hope you like it as much as I do. I’m sitting in the chair I’m sure we’re about to spend a lot of time feeding together in, and your quilt is wrapped over my legs. Oh how I just can’t wait for you to be here, but at the same time, I’m still not quite believing this is actually happening. I have longed for you for such a long time and for you to finally be on your way is almost too much for my heart to handle.
Growing you is one of my most favourite things, watching my body grow and change as you do too. I have loved being your home. It’s a fascinating process to grow a tiny human. Nourishing us both, keeping active, practicing calm breathing and stretching are my focus now, I’m looking after both of us the best I can and your Papa is so proud of me. Your movements fill me with the best kind of joy! You are a very active baby and I love it. There’s no mistaking your little foot that now hangs out under my right rib. Your movements are a constant reminder of your blessed presence in my body. I am never alone, it’s so comforting to know that you are always with me, that we’re together. Most nights your Papa reads you a story, you kick away at the sound of his voice and we’re sure you know the story by now, and my heart just melts into a puddle. I can’t wait to see him hold you. He eyes are already so full of love and wonder at you and you’re still in my tummy, I can’t wait to see what they’re like once you join us here on the outside. There are going to be so many happy tears when we meet you, I just know it.
We’re had little peaks in at you on ultrasounds! We adore your chubby cheeks and the way you play with your hands. You love to suck on your hands or hold them over your face. We’ve loved watching you grow and change with each glimpse we get.
The things you’ve already done whilst inside my belly amaze me. I can’t wait to tell you about all the adventures we had together before you were born.
You’ve been swimming in the ocean with me.
Your Dad and I bought our first home. Something we’d been dreaming for a long time. Your coming hastened us with that. Your Dad so dearly wants a dog and has patiently waited for a long time. We’d hoped to get one before you came but decided it might be wiser to wait a little longer. So next year, when I’m feeling settled in my role as mumma, you and I are going to pick out our family dog and give your Dad the best surprise ever! We can’t wait to watch the two of you playing and crawling together, the imagined cuteness kills me in the most wonderful way.
I got the most into running I’ve ever been. Your Dad was so happy for us to be finally running together. He can’t wait for family runs. You and I could run 15km together before I stopped. I’d never run that far before in my life!
We drove a crazy number of kilometres together while I spent several months working at a tiny country hospital for a few days each week that is several hours away from home. This meant your mumma got to see a lot of her family and friends and so many more people got to watch and feel you grow so closely. I spent a lot of that car time dreaming about life with you.
We’ve explored some beautiful spots in the Blue Mountains.
You joined us on our first big family holiday. It was like the honeymoon your Dad and I talked about but for many reasons never ended up taking. It was 3 weeks of heaven despite me being quite sick with a cold the whole time.
We explored New York, looked at the animals and rowed boats in Central Park.
Ran over the Brooklyn Bridge.
Celebrated a beautiful couple’s wedding.
Fell in love with the Rocky Mountains in Colorado. You’ve been hiking in some incredibly high mountains and discovered snow shoeing. This is the picture we took to share our joyful news with everyone.
We did a lot of hiking in the states. I think you’ve caught on your parents love exploring the outdoors.
You’ve already wandered through the red woods, they are incredible.
Big Sur was beautiful.
Yosemite was breathtaking but surprisingly busy.
We watched seals together at Pier 39.
And ran together over the Golden Gate Bridge.
You and I went to Melbourne for the Dietitian’s Annual conference and ate our way around that delicious city.
You helped us paint our home.
We played in the snow at home.
We watched whales swim by whilst visiting family. You must have sensed your mumma’s excitement because you kicked like crazy!
You were showered with so much love at the baby shower.
You helped us make you a beautiful room, even though you’ll sleep with us to start with, it’s here when you’re ready. I promise we’ll get rid of the purple carpet soon, it will just keep you warmer for now.
We have done a lot of walking together!
We’re ready when you are baby! We just can’t wait to meet you little one. Xoxo
