Today is baby’s due date! I promised myself early on in my pregnancy I wouldn’t get too caught up over the due date. Something like 5% of women give birth on their due date and one is more likely to go over with their first baby. I had a strong feeling baby would arrive early and then at one point it looked like I was going to be induced early, so it seemed like we’d be cuddling our baby by the due date. But here we are, at 40 weeks exactly, baby still tucked away. (update: 41 weeks and nothing has changed)
Waiting for baby is hard! I’ve had lots of cramps and contractions for over a week now so I’m just hoping they turn into the real deal soon. I’m telling myself the muscles are getting the practice they need now for a smooth, easy birth….. one can hope! I’m doing my best to keep my hands and mind busy. And walking a LOT.
Hearing: our birth playlist, I listen to it whilst I wander up the hill.
Making: mobiles, a quilt and cushion covers. I’ve really enjoyed getting back into sewing and crafting.
Cooking: today I baked melting moments, subbing passionfruit for the orange zest. I’ve been craving one for weeks and decided a while ago I would bake them on my due date if I got that far. They were well worth the wait. I thoroughly enjoyed them with a cup of tea with Alex when he got home from work today. I sit on the floor these days, the couch is just too uncomfy.
Drinking: water, raspberry leaf tea, juice and at least one smoothie a day. Favourite smoothie flavours at present are cacao+date and beetroot+watermelon+raspberry. I’ll do some measuring and post recipes soon.
Craving: just satisfied the craving for a melting moment.
Wanting: baby to arrive, I think that one’s obvious!
Buying: these recovery shorts. My abs have definitely separated this pregnancy and these shorts are supposed to help with healing them back together.
Looking: back through lots of pictures from this year. It’s fun to see how this belly has grown and changed. I can’t believe how big I used to think it was. (This one is some where around 4 months)
Deciding: baby’s middle name if it is a boy. We’re sorted if baby is a girl.
Enjoying: the fact that it’s finally feeling like spring. I even got to swim at the outdoor pool last week, it was divine!
Waiting: for baby.
Loving: every moment Alex and I spending together, totally soaking up this precious time before our two becomes three.
Pondering: when baby will be here, are you sensing a theme? I want to meet our baby!
Planning: budgets, our bigger renovation projects (laundry, moving some walls, kitchen and garden), Christmas and baby’s christening. The christening seems a bit ridiculous given baby isn’t on the outside yet but we have a very special but tiny family christening gown so we can’t leave it too long and December is a busy month.
Watching: the kangaroos in our neighbours yard. Our neighbours feed them several times a day so it’s not unusual to look out the kitchen window and spy 10 kangaroos. We’ve seen a few joeys tucked away in pouches for most of the year. Today was the first day I saw one out of the pouch. Alex would say when the joeys came out of the pouch, it would be time for our baby to arrive. I informed baby of this development this afternoon, your move baby!
Wearing: big cosy jumpers and leggings and the odd summer dress.
Feeling: so full of baby! And ready, ready to give birth and meet our baby. Baby’s come when they’re ready. Each night we do some relaxations then Alex reads baby a story. Then we tell baby that we’re ready for them whenever they’re ready.
