Today was my last run. My doctor said I would know when the time came to stop and I can comfortably say today is the day. I’ve gotten much better at listening to my body throughout this pregnancy, slowing down and stopping to rest when I feel the need. I would have liked to run for a little longer but I’ve not really kept it up these past few weeks and the time has come to let it go. My future pelvic floor will thank me. Instead it’s time to following that blue line up and down the pool.
Yesterday it snowed! I had a cosy day at home, baking biscuits, cooking for enjoyment again and watched the snow fall all afternoon. It was magical. We woke early this morning to find the snow still around so we put our running clothes on and headed out. It was a beautiful morning to be out, not often can you go running in the snow. Before we set out I had a feeling this would be my last run for a while and what a morning to go out on! Running is a generous description for this mornings activity, it was more of a jog and walk up a big hill. Here are some pictures from this delightful morning.
Hearing: Alex fiddle with the fire. We’re having trouble with the fire, it just doesn’t seem to burn well. Perhaps the chimney needs clearing out.
Making: our kitchen cleaner and more organised. It was rather grimy when we moved in but I just wanted to get boxes out of the way so I just put things in cupboards. Now I’m working my way through the kitchen, scrubbing and organising. It feels good.
Cooking: happy to be enjoying cooking again. Our fridge finally arrived.. cue dancing for joy! I don’t think I’ve ever been so excited about an appliance before. Keeping leftovers at a food safe temperature and freezing…. such a delight. I made our favourite vegetarian lasagne, this delicious ice cream, Monte Carlos, spiced coconut and lentil soup and a delicious dinner made up on the fly – see below. I’ll share the recipe shortly.
Drinking: all of the tea, a daily hot chocolate – often of the chocolate chai variety, and reminding myself to drink water – I find myself forgetting in this chilly weather.
Craving: the cravings for salt and vinegar chips have continued and I’ve indulged a little too frequently.
Reading: Aussie Midwives, Ina May’s Guide to Childbirth and flicking through a few baby name books. So far we have one mutually agreeable name (that we picked out long before falling pregnant) and time is ticking away.
Wanting: a comfortable seat. I’m finding our couch to be too soft. I’ll look for a fit ball tomorrow as a temporary solution and I think we’ll get the armchair I’m been wanting for years and add the rocking feet closer to baby’s due date.
Buying: a pregnancy pillow – so so comfortable, although it doesn’t leave a lot of room in bed for Alex. Today we picked up this bassinet second hand for bubs and during the week I’ll pick up this pram. Gumtree has been good to us this week. A lot of people have recommended buying second hand baby things and so far it’s been great advice. It feels good to have started getting a few of the bigger items for baby.
Looking: up cafes in Bathurst and deciding where to have lunch tomorrow.
Deciding: what to do with our wardrobe. It’s currently doorless and could do with a new fit out.
Enjoying: our new home, our very own home. The sun filled living room is dreamy and this morning we made waffles for the first time here, Saturday morning perfection.
Waiting: to hear of our niece’s arrival. My brother and his wife are having their baby today and we can’t wait to hear the news, and of course the newborn snuggles during the week!
Loving: this sweet nesting phase we’re in.
Pondering: what to eat. We had an early dinner tonight so I’m feeling like a snack before bed. There’s something ice cream left from last night so I might have some of that, or perhaps a slice of toast.
Watching: tomorrow is date time and we’re off to see Finding Dory!
Wearing: continuing to wear everything warm. Single digits again here all weekend. We even had snow yesterday! Painting has been off the cards with this weather. This jumper has been especially cosy, when I haven’t been at work this week I’ve been in this jumper. Alex may have to tear it off me and give it a wash soon.
Feeling: not warm enough, despite the fact we have our fire going and a heater on. The house came without any window coverings so we’ve hung up sheets everywhere, which have made a big difference but are still not as good as proper blinds. We picked the colours for our loungeroom blinds last night and will order them this weekend. And hang doors on some of the bedrooms, that way we wont be trying to heat such a large space.
